San José Ranks amongst the best cities to invest Worldwide Global Services Media, a worldwide consulting firm that focuses on outsourcing and technology, has recently qualified San José, Costa Rica, as one of the most recommended cities to open an outsourcing business. The Costa Rican capital has escalated seven spots compared to the 2008 ranking, taking the 20th spot amongst the top 50 nations, and placing at a higher position than other important cities such as Toronto, Rio de Janeiro and Budapest.
The report highlights several strengths about San José, such as a multi-lingual labor force, the government tax incentives and its time zone and its near shore location to the US. It also mentions several success stories such as HP, IBM and SYKES, that have expanded their operations as a result of the political environment and the quality of the Costa Rican labor force.
San José was catalogued by the firm as the prime emerging city of 2009, a year in which –despite the crisis- the outsourcing business continuously evolved and showed signals of a well-structured business model.
The current administration has made an effort to improve the country´s infrastructure by granting an operation permit to a private company to build and operate a new port in the Caribbean coast, which will improve the docking and loading of the cargo and important touristic cruises. On the other hand, highway projects that were only on paper are about to be finished by Q1 2010.
